Heatwaves have the largest effect on human health out of all major weather events. Extreme heat events are predicted to worsen in Australia over the next 10-15 years. NT Health are the hazard management authority for heatwave in the Northern Territory (NT) and are responsible for managing extreme heat events when they occur in the NT. NT Health have conducted consultation with local government to understand what community-based controls, such as air-conditioned halls that people can go for respite are located in our remote communities. Risk plans have been developed to help the communities manage the hazard when a heatwave warning is issued. Environmental Health have also produced public messaging for heat health in local language to improve understanding of the effects of extreme heat.
