Jo-ann Adams
I was born and raised in Darwin, where I still reside. My father’s people are Yadhiagana from Injinoo in Cape York with ties to the Torres Strait. My mother’s people are Gringi from Central Western Northern Territory. I am one of 13 children, and I have two children and two grandchildren.
I work for the Department of Health, and have so for 13 years as an Aboriginal Health Promotion Officer, and now as a Program Coordinator for Healthy Homes. My position takes me to various remote communities in the Top End of the Northern Territory, to plan, implement and evaluate health promotion programs that increase capacity of Aboriginal people living in these communities to improve their own health and wellbeing.
